Route notes
Why this routing works
This routing uses a mix of flights and overland gaps to keep the trip moving in one general direction while allowing flexibility on the ground. It opens with San Francisco to Reykjavik, then leaves space for an overland transition to London before a short flight to Bristol. A second open-jaw appears between Bristol and Milan, followed by a short intra-Italy flight to Rome and onward connections through Turkey and Egypt.
The middle of the ticket is built around a long-haul shift from Cairo into southern Africa, with Maun marked as an overland arrival before continuing by air to Kasane. From there, the routing makes a major jump to Osaka, where the longest stay of the trip sits at 65 nights. The final section is straightforward: Osaka to Cairns, then sequential flights through Sydney and Melbourne before the transpacific return to San Francisco.
With 18 weeks total duration, the timing is spread between a few longer stays and several short flight sectors. The longest confirmed stop is Osaka, with additional stays in Reykjavik, Dalaman, Istanbul, Cairo, and three Australian cities. That structure makes this a practical example of an economy RTW fare used to link a large number of regions without requiring every city-to-city move to be flown on the same ticket.
Because the itinerary departs in August and falls in the Jul-Sep season window, it is set up as a late-summer departure with multiple surface sectors built in. The route string shows two clear overland breaks in Europe plus another into Maun, which is useful for travelers who want the flight ticket to cover the intercontinental backbone while leaving selected regional moves independent.
