Route notes
Why this routing works
This 26-week economy itinerary is built as a multi-region route with several planned overland sections. It starts in Kota Kinabalu, flies to San Francisco, then resumes in Cartagena with an open-jaw structure through Colombia, Bolivia, and Ecuador before continuing onward from Guayaquil to the Galapagos. Using overland gaps between Cartagena and Bogota, Santa Cruz and La Paz, and Quito and Guayaquil keeps the flight plan flexible while preserving the long-haul ticket framework.
After 9 nights in the Galapagos, the ticket returns to San Francisco and continues across Minneapolis and Boston before crossing to London and Athens. This middle section shows a clear sequencing choice: break the long eastbound progression with multiple North American stops before Europe, rather than forcing a single continuous transatlantic push. The 8-night stay in London and 13-night stay in Athens also create room between major long-haul sectors.
The final portion uses another surface gap into Kampala, then restarts by air from Kilimanjaro to Zanzibar, Paris, and back to San Francisco. That structure is useful for a trip mixing independent regional movement with fixed intercontinental flights. With a starting price range of USD 6,440 to USD 8,430 in economy for an April departure, this routing suits travelers who want a long-duration, complex ticket that links separate regional chapters into one coordinated itinerary.
