Route notes
Why this routing works
This routing uses Taipei twice to organize the transpacific flow efficiently: Portland to Taipei, onward to Kuala Lumpur, then up to Tokyo before returning to Taipei. That sequencing keeps the long-haul crossings concentrated at the beginning and end of the trip while linking the intra-Asia flights in a logical northbound progression.
The itinerary also mixes ticketed flights with planned overland segments. After Tokyo, the route resumes in Taipei, continues to Kao Hsiung Municipality, and then flies to Shanghai. A second overland break appears between Hong Kong and Shenzhen before the final flight back to Portland, which is useful for travelers who want a multi-city ticket without needing every segment to be by air.
At four weeks, the stop pattern is fairly compact: 2 nights in Taipei, 4 in Kuala Lumpur, 7 in Tokyo, and 2 in Shanghai, with additional unticketed ground movement in Taiwan and between Hong Kong and Shenzhen. In premium economy, this is positioned as a comfort-focused but still connection-conscious Pacific itinerary, with a sold price range of USD 3,592 to USD 5,480 for April departures.
