Route notes
Why this routing works
This nine-week itinerary is built as a westbound multi-stop loop from Washington DC through South America, across the Pacific to Australasia, then onward through Southeast Asia and India before returning to Washington DC. The routing uses a mix of flight sectors and overland transitions, which helps connect nearby points without forcing unnecessary backtracking into the ticket.
A key structural feature is the overland handling at Iguazu and Lima. The ticket is set up so travel moves from Washington DC into the Iguazu area, continues from the Argentina side, then later resumes in Lima after an overland segment. The same logic appears again between Auckland and Sydney, and between Bandar Seri Begawan and Singapore, allowing the route to keep moving forward while leaving flexibility between ticketed flight points.
Timing is concentrated most clearly in the later Pacific and Asia sections, with 2 nights in Sydney, 9 nights in Denpasar Bali, and 4 nights in Bandar Seri Begawan. Those shorter and longer stays help balance the pace of a nine-week trip, especially after the long-haul crossings from South America to New Zealand and onward through Australia and Southeast Asia.
From a ticketing perspective, this is a complex economy itinerary covering multiple regions for a starting price range of USD 3,964 to USD 5,189, based on January departure in the Jan-Mar season. The sequence is logical for a single extended journey: South America first, then Australasia, then Southeast Asia and South Asia, ending with the transoceanic return to Washington DC.
