Qatar Stopover Program: Rules, Cost and How to Book
Qatar's stopover is a paid hotel package in Doha, not a free one. Packages start at USD 14 per person for one night in a shared double room, run up to 4 nights, and apply when your transit in Doha is between 12 and 96 hours. You need a Qatar Airways or codeshare ticket, and the hotel is booked with the flights.

How the program works
Qatar Airways Holidays and Discover Qatar sell hotel packages to passengers connecting through Hamad International Airport (DOH). You fly Qatar to Doha, stay a few nights, and fly on. The hotel price depends on the star rating and the number of nights. Qatar also sells tours and experiences you can add.

Qatar's free option: complimentary transit accommodation
Separate from the stopover package, Qatar gives a free hotel room to some connecting passengers. The conditions on Qatar's page: no flight to your next destination, marketed or operated by Qatar Airways, within eight hours of your arrival in Doha; at least one flight on your itinerary marketed and operated by Qatar Airways; and a booking made at least three days before departure. It applies only on select fare types, which Qatar does not list, and is at Qatar's sole discretion.
It is a transit service, not a holiday stopover. Checked bags can only be claimed at your final destination unless your ticket is reissued to include a Qatar stopover, which carries additional fees. The full criteria are on Qatar's page.
How to book it with AirTreks
Qatar is a oneworld member, so Qatar flights can be part of a oneworld Explorer route, and Doha is a common connection between Asia, Africa, Europe and Australia.
- Doha as a stop on your route. We build the stop into the itinerary and ticket it. The stop is part of your ticket. The hotel is a separate purchase.
- The hotel. Qatar says the hotel is booked in the same transaction as the flights, and that if the flights are already booked you add the hotel through Discover Qatar. Qatar's pages do not state the price for that second route, so check it at booking.
- Other airlines' tickets. Qatar's terms name only Qatar Airways and codeshare tickets. They do not say whether a ticket that carries Qatar flights alongside other airlines qualifies. Search your route in TripPlanner to see what is available now, and we confirm whether the USD 14 applies to your ticket.
Tell your consultant at the start if you do not want to connect through Doha. If you refuse a Doha flight after ticketing, the rest of that ticket can be affected, so we ask before we build.
When you are better off on your own: a single Qatar return with one Doha stopover and no other stops. Qatar's own booking flow adds the hotel in one step.
Mistakes to avoid
- Expecting the hotel to be free. It is a package. The USD 14 figure is a starting price for 1 night, two sharing.
- Booking the hotel on the wrong date. Check-in must match your Doha arrival date.
- Names that do not match the boarding pass. The hotel can refuse the booking.
- Needing your bags. On a transit in Doha under 24 hours, you cannot collect checked baggage. Pack essentials in your carry-on.
- Skipping the visa check. A valid visa may be required. For some passports, a hotel booking with Discover Qatar or Qatar Airways Holidays is mandatory. Check Visit Qatar for your passport.
- Cancelling late. Cancellations incur a 100% charge, and nothing is refunded once travel has started.
