Hub and Connections
MEX (Mexico City Benito Juarez) is the sole hub. MCT is 90 minutes for international connections. MEX is slot-controlled and congested. Strong connections between US cities and Latin American destinations via MEX. Joint venture with Delta on US-Mexico routes. GDL (Guadalajara) and MTY (Monterrey) serve as focus cities.
Baggage
Bags check through on SkyTeam connections. Joint venture with Delta provides seamless bag handling on US-Mexico routes. Aeromexico Basic fares do not include checked baggage. Interline agreements with SkyTeam members. Domestic Mexican flights have lower weight limits.
Terminal Notes
MEX Terminal 2 for all Aeromexico and SkyTeam partner flights. Terminal 1 used by other carriers. No airside connection between T1 and T2 (shuttle bus required, 20+ minutes). Aeromexico Salon Premier lounges at T2. Delta also operates from T2 under the joint venture. Terminal 2 can be very congested.
Operational Notes
MEX is at high altitude (2,230m) which limits aircraft payload, especially on hot afternoons. This restricts maximum range on some long-haul routes. The airport is severely congested with frequent taxi delays and ATC holds. Hurricane season (June through November) can disrupt Caribbean and Gulf coast routes. Aeromexico emerged from Chapter 11 in 2022 with a reduced fleet.
