Hub and Connections
Primary hub at Auckland (AKL). Minimum connection time 90 minutes international-international, 60 minutes domestic-international. Domestic network feeds long-haul from AKL, Wellington (WLG), and Christchurch (CHC). Strong codeshare with United Airlines for onward US connections. Star Alliance partner connections at AKL are straightforward since the airport is single-terminal.
Baggage
Bags check through on Star Alliance itineraries. Domestic NZ flights use a weight-based system rather than piece concept. International flights follow piece concept. Surfboards and sports equipment accepted with advance booking and fees. NZ biosecurity requires declaring food and outdoor gear on arrival, which can slow baggage claim.
