Operational notes

Hub and Connections

Primary hubs: DFW (largest hub, 900+ daily departures), CLT, MIA, PHL, ORD, PHX, DCA, LAX. Minimum connection time at DFW is 45 minutes domestic, 60 minutes international. MIA is the primary gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean. CLT handles heavy East Coast connecting traffic with tight 35-minute minimum connections. Oneworld partners (BA, QR, CX, JL, QF) operate from shared terminals at most hubs.

Baggage

Bags check through to final destination on Oneworld interline itineraries. On separate tickets, bags must be reclaimed and rechecked at the first US port of entry regardless of carrier. AA has interline baggage agreements with most major carriers. Codeshare flights on regional partners (Envoy, PSA, SkyWest) check bags through seamlessly.

Terminal Notes

JFK: Terminal 8 (shared with BA, IB, and other Oneworld partners). LAX: Terminals 4 and 5. ORD: Terminal 3. MIA: Concourses D and E. Admirals Club lounges at all hubs. Flagship Lounges with dining at JFK, MIA, LAX, DFW, ORD for premium cabin passengers on long-haul flights.

Operational Issues

DFW and MIA are prone to weather delays during summer thunderstorm season (June through September). CLT frequently experiences ground stops during convective weather. Regional operations on smaller aircraft (CRJ-700, E175) are more cancellation-prone during winter weather at northern hubs. AA tends to cancel proactively ahead of major weather events.
