Key facts about this carrier

Hawaiian Airlines is a Honolulu-based carrier operating inter-island, US mainland, and transpacific flights, now merged with Alaska Airlines as of 2024.

  • Hub at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) in Honolulu.
  • Merged with Alaska Airlines in 2024; now operates as a subsidiary within the Alaska Air Group.
  • Largest carrier for flights between the US mainland and Hawaii, plus inter-island service.
  • Operates widebody A330s and 787s on long-haul routes to Asia and Oceania.

Why this tier

Hawaiian Airlines operates 75 aircraft from its Honolulu hub, ranking #1 among US carriers for on-time arrivals (83.1%) in the first half of 2025. Now fully owned by Alaska Air Group following the 2024 merger, the airline is transitioning its 787 Dreamliners to the Alaska brand while maintaining A330-200 widebody service to Asia-Pacific destinations including Tokyo, Seoul, and Sydney.

Strengths

  • Ranked #1 US airline for on-time performance in H1 2025 (83.1% on-time arrivals per DOT)
  • Cancellation rate under 1% - among the lowest of any US carrier in 2025
  • Daily widebody A330 service from Honolulu to Tokyo, Seoul, and Sydney with 787-9 deployment on premium routes
  • Alaska Air Group backing provides expanded connectivity to 100+ North American cities via codeshare
  • Only carrier offering nonstop interisland service across all major Hawaiian airports (HNL, OGG, LIH, KOA)

Watch-outs

  • 787 Dreamliners transferring to Alaska brand by spring 2026 - long-haul product identity is in flux
  • Single reservation system migration set for April 2026 creates booking disruption risk during transition
  • Limited international network beyond a handful of Asia-Pacific and Oceania routes - not a global carrier
  • No alliance membership post-merger (Alaska joined oneworld, but Hawaiian integration into oneworld is still in progress)
