Operational notes
Hub and Connections
Primary base at Melbourne (MEL). Other major bases at SYD, BNE, GC (Gold Coast). Qantas Group subsidiary. Domestic Australian network plus international flights to NZ, Bali (DPS), Japan (NRT, KIX), Singapore (SIN), Vietnam (SGN), Thailand (BKK), Hawaii (HNL). Jetstar Japan (GK), Jetstar Asia (3K, SIN-based), and Jetstar Pacific are separate carriers. Minimum connection time at MEL is 90 minutes international, 60 minutes domestic.
Baggage and Interline
As a Qantas subsidiary, bags check through on QF-JQ connections when on the same booking. Qantas frequent flyers get some baggage benefits on JQ. No checked bag included in Starter fare. JQ does not interline with non-Qantas Group carriers. Jetstar Japan and Jetstar Asia are separate airlines and bags do not check through between them and JQ without a Qantas booking.
Terminal Notes
At MEL, domestic flights from Terminal 4 (shared with Qantas domestic), international from Terminal 2. At SYD, domestic from Terminal 2 (separate from Qantas Terminal 3). At SYD international, from Terminal 1. The SYD terminal split between domestic T2 and Qantas domestic T3 can complicate connections. No Jetstar lounges, but Qantas Club members can access QF lounges on JQ flights.
Operational Notes
Fleet is A320, A321neo, and 787-8 for long-haul. Business class available on 787 services only. LCC model but backed by Qantas Group. Qantas Points can be earned and used on JQ flights. JQ has a reputation for delays in Australian domestic market. Strict carry-on weight enforcement (7kg limit). Starter fares are very restrictive with paid add-ons for everything.
