Operational notes

Hub and Connections

Primary hub: Queen Alia International Airport, Amman (AMM). Minimum connection time is 60 minutes. RJ connects the Middle East, Levant region, and North Africa with Europe and North America. AMM serves as a gateway to Jordan, Iraq, and the broader Levant. RJ is one of the smaller Oneworld members with around 40 destinations. RJ codeshares with AA on AMM-ORD and AMM-JFK. Limited Asian network compared to QR or EK.

Baggage

Weight-based on most routes, piece-based on transatlantic services. Bags check through on Oneworld partner tickets. RJ has interline agreements with all Oneworld carriers. AMM baggage handling is reliable for a mid-sized hub. On connections requiring transit through AMM, bags transfer efficiently within the single terminal.

Terminal Notes

AMM Queen Alia has a modern terminal opened in 2013 (designed by Foster + Partners). Single terminal building. RJ operates the Crown Lounge for business class passengers and Oneworld Emerald/Sapphire members. The terminal is well-equipped but smaller than Gulf mega-hubs. Duty-free selection is decent. LHR: Terminal 3. ORD: Terminal 5.

Operational Issues

Regional geopolitical instability can affect RJ operations. Airspace closures in neighboring countries (Syria, Iraq, Lebanon) occasionally require rerouting. RJ has a small fleet (under 30 aircraft), so mechanical issues cause noticeable disruption. AMM weather is generally favorable year-round with rare fog or storms. Peak travel during Hajj, Ramadan, and summer months. RJ's transatlantic service operates limited frequencies (typically daily or less), so rebooking after cancellations can mean multi-day waits.
