Hub and Connections
Primary hub at Chengdu Tianfu (TFU), the new mega-airport that replaced most operations from the old Chengdu Shuangliu (CTU). Secondary bases at Chongqing (CKG), Kunming (KMG), and Harbin (HRB). One of China's largest domestic carriers. International routes to Southeast Asia, Japan, Korea, Australia, and some European/North American cities. MCT at TFU is 90 minutes for international connections. Large domestic network useful for connecting to smaller Chinese cities.
Baggage
Limited interline baggage agreements outside China. Domestic connections within Sichuan Airlines network check through. When connecting to international carriers, bags typically must be collected at the Chinese port of entry due to customs requirements regardless of interline status. Weight-based baggage system.
Terminal Notes
TFU: Terminal 1 (massive new facility, opened 2021). Some flights still operate from CTU during transition. Check which airport carefully when booking. TFU is about 50km from Chengdu city center. Business class lounge available at TFU and major Chinese airports.
Operational Notes
Fleet is A320 family, A330, and A350-900 for long-haul. Chengdu weather (fog, low visibility) causes frequent delays, especially in winter months. Not an alliance member but has equity partnership with Air China (Star Alliance). Available in GDS. Domestic fares are competitive. International long-haul service quality is decent but not premium-tier. Chinese visa transit rules (144-hour TWOV) can enable free stopovers in Chengdu.
