Domestic network covers all major Australian cities and key leisure destinations (BNE, SYD, MEL, PER, ADL, OOL, CNS, HBA, CBR). Short-haul international to NZ (AKL, WLG, CHC, ZQN), Bali (DPS), Fiji (NAN), and Tokyo (HND). Codeshare partnerships with Singapore Airlines, United, Qatar, Delta, and Etihad. Velocity frequent flyer program. No alliance membership.
Baggage and Interline
Interline baggage agreements with Singapore Airlines (SQ), United (UA), Qatar (QR), Delta (DL), and Etihad (EY). Bags check through on codeshare itineraries. Economy Lite (lowest fare) has no checked bag. SQ codeshare is particularly strong, with bags checking through SIN for onward connections globally. Velocity status holders get additional baggage on VA flights.
Terminal Notes
At SYD, domestic from Terminal 2, international from Terminal 1. At MEL, domestic from Terminal 3, international from Terminal 2. At BNE, domestic and international from the same terminal building. SYD T2 to T1 connection requires a train or bus (allow 90 minutes). Virgin Australia Lounges available at SYD, MEL, BNE, PER, ADL, CBR, and GC for business class and Velocity Gold+ members.
Operational Notes
Fleet is 737-700, 737-800, and 737 MAX 8. Emerged from voluntary administration in 2020, now owned by Bain Capital. Repositioned as a mid-market carrier (between Qantas and Jetstar). Business class on all 737s (2-2 configuration, not lie-flat). No wide-body aircraft. Previously operated long-haul international (LAX, AUH) but discontinued after restructuring. SQ partnership fills the long-haul gap via SIN.
