Currency matters when Yen is strong vs weaker. Kyoto Spring Blossoms and getting into the Japan countryside or outside the BIG cities. Like most places globally - they are different worlds. In and out of Tokyo is just fine - you can also overland - come in via Aomori or Sendai and go south to Tokyo airports of continue south to Kagoshima or others on that Southern Tip
